As
I continue with the "See Jane" series, as discussed on the Current Series page link, I
am inspired by current events directly connected to women. The
piece titled "Target Jane" was created after reading article after
article and viewing clip after clip on my television about the current
state of Health Care
Reform. On a daily basis women's bodies were continuously being
used as arguement for or against Health Care Reform. I found
myself feeling as if I was a target without a voice.
"Regulated Jane" was also created with this discussion in mind. A friend of mine told me of a recent quote, which came from one of the most prominent members of the feminist movement; "Regulate oil not abortion!" As soon as I heard it I wanted to tag it on every wall around town but instead I responded with my vision of that statement, piecing together parts of my personal story to make it whole. Being a target, of sorts, makes me feel like I am on display to be devoured in haste by all around me, just as a child may devoure a cake on their birthday. This was the inspiration for "See Jane Eat". |
