self portraitTricia Earl is the Coordinator for the Women’s Studies Program at Texas Tech University with responsibility for maintaining, organizing and planning departmental projects and programming.  She also serves the University as an instructor in the School of Art and Women’s Studies Program teaching undergraduate courses and participating in service activities for the University.  Prior to joining Texas Tech University she worked as the exhibition coordinator at the Buddy Holly Center with the City of Lubbock.  Additionally, she has held academic teaching positions, education and curatorial occupations for the past ten years in Lubbock, TX, where she currently resides.

 

She earned a BFA from the University of North Texas, Denton in 1998 and a MFA from Texas Tech University, Lubbock in 2001.  Study abroad programs include the University of London, in 1997.

 

Since 2005, she has been instrumental in escalating presentations, lectures, conferences, colloquiums, exhibitions, panel discussions and multiple film series in an academic setting as well as within the Lubbock community. The primary objective to her coordinating, organizing and planning achievements has been to provide an open forum to enhance critical thinking, promoting social justice.

 

In addition to her academic and administrative occupations, she is an independent artist working with photography since 1986. Integrating historical and emerging feminist practices and theories inspires her research By combining bits and pieces of repressed stories she explores systematic approaches to defining gender idenitty, culture and social media through researching propaganda, bias, discrimination and political agendas.

 

Honors and awards include two-time nominee for the Annual President’s Excellence in Diversity & Equity Award from the Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement at Texas Tech University.  She also secured $6,000 grant from the CH Foundation to complete a documentary for the plainSpeaking series focusing on the Artist of the Llano Estacado. Memberships include the all woman artists collaborative, chiCrits, and a member of the board of SOFA (Supporters of the Fine Arts).   Since 1998 she has been in over 55 exhibitions/competitions incorporating group, solo and invitational exhibitions ranging from Texas, Los Angeles, Wisconsin, Virginia and New York.
